You don’t have to go back to Tesla for tires.
Tesla’s support site says damaged Tesla tires can go to a Tesla Service Center or a nearby third-party tire shop for repair or replacement. That means a local shop like The Motorpool can handle your Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X tires.
The brands Tesla uses
Tesla says it works with Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Hankook, Kumho, Michelin and Pirelli to design tires for its cars. We carry all seven brands, so we can match what came on your car.
T0, T1, T2: what the sidewall mark means
Tesla-designed tires are marked with a T: T0 for the first version, then T1, T2 and so on as Tesla updates the tuning or technology. Tesla says these tires use acoustic foam inside the tire, which it rates at about 6 dB less road noise at 200 Hz. Tesla-approved tires without the T mark may skip the foam. Tell us your current sidewall marks and we will quote a matching tire.
By appointment only, at Full Service
Tesla tire installs are by appointment only at The Motorpool Full Service. Quick Lube does not install tires.
Tesla tire FAQ
Can a non-Tesla shop install Tesla tires?
Yes. Tesla’s own support page says damaged Tesla tires can be taken to a Tesla Service Center or a nearby third-party tire shop for repair or replacement, at the owner’s cost. The Motorpool installs tires for Tesla vehicles at our Full Service shop, by appointment only.
What is the difference between T-marked and regular tires?
Tesla-designed tires carry a T mark on the sidewall: T0 is the first version, and later updates with new tuning or technology are marked T1, T2 and so on. Tesla says these tires are tuned for its vehicles and use acoustic foam to cut road noise. Tesla-approved aftermarket tires without the mark may not have acoustic foam, which Tesla says can mean up to 10% more noise, vibration and harshness.
Does the Tesla Wheel & Tire Protection Plan require Tesla to do the repairs?
Yes. Tesla states that to keep eligibility for coverage under the Tesla Wheel and Tire Protection Plan, all repairs must be performed at a Tesla Service Center. If you have that plan and want to use it, take the car to Tesla. Outside the plan, you can use any tire shop, including ours.
Do EVs wear tires faster?
Generally, yes. Electric vehicles are heavier because of their battery packs and deliver torque instantly, and both add tread wear. A 2026 controlled road test published in Mechanika found faster tread wear on EVs than on conventional cars, especially on the front axle. Keeping tires at the pressure on the door-pillar label and rotating them on Tesla’s schedule helps them last.
